Year 3 JE & NP

Topic Overview Autumn 2 Newsletter Term: Autumn 2
Topic: As Mad as a Hatter

During this half term we will be basing our learning on Alice in Wonderland. In English, we will be writing instructions for different recipes, creating our own Alice in Wonderland themed narratives and writing a news paper article on the events that take place in the story. In Maths, we will be learning about money, statistics, time, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions and properties of shape. The Science topic focuses on Animals including Humans. We will be specifically looking at healthy eating, and to support the children's understanding of where food comes from, we will be visiting Toby Carvery. In Computing, we will be learning about how to stay safe using the internet. We will then learn how to edit different images and use cameras to take photographs. During Geography, we will be learning all about maps, symbols and grid references. We will be locating different places on a map and using symbols to describe a locality.

Topic Overview Autumn 1 Newsletter Term: Autumn 1
Topic: Chocolate Fever

Our topic for Autumn Term 1 will be 'Chocolate Fever'. Within our English lessons we will be looking closely at the text: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This will form the focus of our English lessons and we will use this to write a detailed setting and character description as well as a short story. In Mathematics, we will be developing our knowledge of place value, addition, subtraction, shape and measure.

In Year 3, it is extremely important that multiplication facts are learnt and recalled as multiplication links with many other areas of the maths curriculum. As part of our topic based lessons we will be learning about the history of chocolate, including where it is produced and how it is made. We will also be visiting Cadbury's World and our role play has been transformed into our own Chocolate Factory
